The Kiss

In the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, is a small chapel and its there as a young boy that I first heard the Spirits call.  I would sit in the back with my friend Johnny and eat candy listening to the Pentecostal preacher speaking in tongues, shouting, jumping and running down the aisles.  None of it made much sense to me but it was exciting and I like candy.  I went back there several years ago I’m not sure what I was hoping to find. There was a young couple there telling their story of how they had overcome drug addiction through the power of God.  I can still picture the wife looking at the small gathering and saying, “There is joy in the presence of  the angels of God over one sinner that repents”  Luke 15:10.   I don’t know what was said after that, I sprung up from my chair looking for something to write on, I couldn’t get the words on the paper fast enough.

“There’s rejoicing in heaven over one sinner saved, there’s rejoicing among us when we call on His name, the love you’ve longed for, the love you’ve missed, can be found in a moment with Calvary’s kiss”

I was looking for something more, that is why I went to the chapel that day. I was longing to be loved and to love. We all know that the first kiss can be special.  When Jesus spread out his arms on the cross at Calvary, He was embracing us all, it was a kiss.  This kiss was different from any other kiss before or since, it was the “first kiss” and it marked the beginning of something new, the promise of lasting love.

“Calvary’s kiss brings peace within, It’s good to know we belong to Him, there’s victory in Jesus, joy forever more and Calvary’s kiss opened up the door”.
